STATE OF NEW YORK 
EXECUTIVE CHAMBER 
Proclamation

Whereas, each November brings the time of year when Americans offer thanks for the abundant blessings of this great Nation – especially our homes and families – and it also brings the annual observance of Adoption Month, highlighting a longstanding tradition of generosity among many New Yorkers who willingly open their hearts to children in need of a permanent home; and

Whereas, the youth of the Empire State are precious to each of us and represent our greatest hope for the future, and all children deserve a nurturing, safe and stable environment in which they can grow up to enjoy the benefits of a healthy and productive life; and

Whereas, it is important that we remember all the children who are in foster care waiting to be adopted as part of a loving and caring family; and

Whereas, finding nurturing, permanent homes for waiting children is an objective New York State works toward throughout the year and, during Adoption Month, special efforts are made to bring greater awareness of the need for adoptive families; and

Whereas, while all youth require the support and security that comes from a loving family, some children awaiting adoption may have special needs, and caring for and finding happiness in raising these children has proven to be one of the most rewarding experiences for many adoptive parents; and

Whereas, in observing Adoption Month, we also recognize the valuable contributions of adoptive parents who continually strive to improve the quality of life for the children they bring into their lives; and

Whereas, as we gather together as a family, community, State and Nation to celebrate and give thanks for our many blessings, it is the hope of New Yorkers that all children awaiting adoption will quickly be placed in a permanent and loving family and, therefore, it is fitting to support and promote the goals of Adoption Month during this special season of thanks, giving each of us countless reasons to be grateful;

Now, Therefore, I, David A. Paterson, Governor of New York State, do hereby proclaim November 2008 as

ADOPTION AWARENESS MONTH
